Rohde & Schwarz presents solutions at IBC 2012 to meet tomorrow's requirements

Munich, Aug 06, 2012 - Rohde & Schwarz has entered the market for headends with the launch of its R&S AVHE100 system solution. The R&S AVHE100 differs from conventional solutions thanks to its new architecture and innovative redundancy concepts, with the focus on the DVB-T2 and DVB-T standards for the time being. The company will also be showcasing new-generation transmitters that are based on Doherty technology. Thanks to this technology, the new R&S TMU9 medium-power transmitter achieves efficiency that was impossible in the past, considerably reducing the cost of ownership. Rohde & Schwarz is expanding its test and measurement portfolio by adding measuring instruments that are specially designed for digital video interfaces such as HDMI and MHL.

The R&S AVHE100 from Rohde & Schwarz is one of today’s most compact audio/video headends. It is built with high-performance professional IT hardware and a Rohde & Schwarz audio/video gateway that converts legacy signals such as SDI and ASI into IP format at the system boundaries. All signal processing functions were implemented using purely software-based modules. A DVB-T2 headend with multiple decoders and encoders for HD and SD programs, multiplexer, T2 gateway and workflow-oriented headend management system, for example, can be accommodated in only two height units. The R&S CrossFlowIP function developed by Rohde & Schwarz increases system availability and ensures seamless signal switching in case of redundancy.

The R&S TMU9 is a new, air-cooled medium-power transmitter for the UHF range. It is also the first air-cooled transmitter featuring Doherty technology to significantly increase energy efficiency, allowing network operators to reduce their energy costs by as much as 40 percent. The transmitter has an output power range from 570 W to 2.85 kW. It offers more than 50 possible transmitter configurations to provide a custom, highly efficient solution for any application. The MultiTx system, for example, makes it possible to accommodate multiple transmitters in a single rack.

At booth 7.E25, Rohde & Schwarz DVS GmbH will be presenting its studio broadcast and post production solutions, including innovative features and products. VENICE is a media production hub that allows the existing SDI structure of a TV studio to migrate to a modern, file-based world so that broadcasting becomes more effective and cost-efficient. The new version 5 of CLIPSTER provides considerably faster DCP remastering, makes it possible to check the quality of digital movie packages and also offers an enhanced 3D feature set. The SpycerBox storage solution from DVS with its high-availability set secures data by using disaster recovery strategies.

In the field of test and measurement, Rohde & Schwarz has expanded its portfolio for manufacturers of set-top boxes, tablet PCs or smartphones by offering measuring instruments specially designed for digital video interfaces such as HDMI and MHL. The R&S VTC video test center can be used to test the functionality of these interfaces and their compliance with standards. The instrument performs protocol and audio/video analyses in realtime, including picture quality analysis. All these features make the R&S VTC the most flexible test platform on the market for manufacturers of consumer electronics equipment.
